Ferry — last updated 18 June 2026
Ferry does not collect, store, transmit, or share any data about you or your devices.
What Ferry collects
Nothing. There is no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising SDK, no device identifier, no telemetry, no usage metrics. Ferry has no backend — there is no Ferry-operated server to send anything to. The App Store privacy declaration filed with this app is Data Not Collected.
What stays on your device
- Connection metadatahost names, addresses, ports, protocols, and usernames — stored in the app's local container so you can reconnect to saved hosts.
- Passwords and SSH private keysstored in the iOS Keychain, optionally gated behind Face ID. They never leave your device.
- The files you transfermove directly between your device and the server you chose. Ferry is never in the middle.
Network access
Ferry only opens connections to the SMB and SSH/SFTP servers you configure or pick from your local network. There is no Ferry-operated server, no first-party backend, no “phone home” — not on launch, not on crash, not ever. Updates are delivered exclusively through the App Store.
Why Ferry asks for permissions
- Local NetworkFerry browses your local network to find computers and NAS devices sharing files over SMB and SSH. Discovery happens entirely on your network; the results are shown to you and never leave the device.
- PhotosOptional. Requested only when you use the Photos source, so you can transfer photos to a computer or NAS. Ferry reads the photos you pick to send them — nothing more — and never uploads them anywhere except the destination you chose.
- Face IDOptional. Used only to lock the app and protect your saved connections. Authentication is handled by iOS; Ferry never sees your biometric data.
Third parties and tracking
None. No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs are bundled. There is no IDFA, no advertising identifier, no fingerprinting. Nothing in Ferry shares data with any third party because Ferry does not collect data to share.
Children
Ferry is rated 4+ and does not collect data from anyone — children included.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the “last updated” date above will change with it. The policy can only become more restrictive, since the floor is already “collects nothing.”
